What You'll Do
The Vice President, Marketing & Advertising Counsel will serve as the key, senior legal advisor to WW’s Marketing, Brand, and Creative organizations. You will be responsible for reviewing marketing collateral to ensure compliance with federal advertising laws and intellectual property requirements, as well as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of agreements that support advertising, digital marketing and promotional activities. This role requires a business-minded attorney who can balance legal risk with commercial objectives while supporting innovative marketing initiatives across multiple jurisdictions on a global basis.
Marketing and Advertising Compliance
- Serve as primary legal reviewer for marketing and go-to-market collateral across the organization, ensuring compliance with FTC, FDA and state laws, as well as providing support for our global markets.
- Monitor developments in advertising law and regulatory enforcement trends and advise internal stakeholders on emerging compliance risks
- Build scalable programs for influencer, creator, and partnerships at volume, including playbooks, vetting standards, self-service templates and disclosure controls to empower the Marketing organization to move quickly while staying within risk tolerance guardrails
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on marketing strategy and legal risk.
- Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, digital, communications, and commercial teams on product launches and campaigns.
- Provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice in a fast-moving business environment.
Contract Review and Negotiation
- Negotiate and advise on agency, production, talent, celebrity, ambassador, and influencer agreements
- Provide legal review and support of all trademark licensing agreements
- Advise on rights clearances, music licensing, image and name and likeness use, and content production
WHO YOU ARE
What You'll Bring
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction
- 12+ years of marketing, advertising, and brand legal experience, including substantial in-house experience at a consumer or DTC brand in the healthcare, life sciences, or pharmaceutical industries
- Transactional and advisory training at a top-tier law firm, with experience advising on complex, high-value commercial matters related to advertising and trademark licensing.
- Deep expertise in FTC advertising law, claims substantiation, and endorsement and testimonial guidelines
- Demonstrated experience reviewing marketing materials for compliance with FTC regulations and intellectual property laws
- Track record negotiating talent, agency, and influencer agreements at scale
- Sound business judgment and the ability to balance brand ambition with measured legal risk
- Excellent communication skills and credibility with creative leaders and executive partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising on marketing technology platforms, analytics, AI tools and emerging digital technologies
- Familiarity with NAD and BBB challenges, competitor advertising disputes, and class action defense in marketing claims
- Background advising on global campaigns and international trademark strategy
