Xometry is seeking an experienced Customs Operations Specialist to support our EU export operations. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and compliance of export documentation, coordinate with customs brokers and authorities, and provide guidance on complex and non-standard shipments.
You will work closely with our logistics, warehouse, technical, finance, and IT teams to resolve operational issues, support month-end activities, and improve customs processes through automation. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong knowledge of EU customs regulations with attention to detail, ownership, and a practical problem-solving mindset.
How You’ll Contribute:
Export Documentation and Compliance:
Prepare complete document packages and provide the required information to customs brokers for export declarations
Review commercial data, including declared value, country of origin, Incoterms, and product descriptions
Verify export documentation and customs entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with EU customs regulations
Prepare responses and supporting documentation for inquiries from customs authorities
Customs Broker and Authority Coordination:
Manage day-to-day communication with customs brokers, transport companies, and customs authorities
Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to export declarations and supporting documents
Coordinate internal stakeholders during customs reviews and audits
Ensure that urgent and non-standard customs cases are handled accurately and on time
Rules of Origin and Preferential Trade:
Assess product eligibility under preferential trade agreements
Manage Supplier’s Declarations and prepare the information required for EUR.1 certificates
Support T2 procedures and mandatory invoice declarations for San Marino
Maintain accurate documentation related to preferential and non-preferential origin
Non-Standard Shipments:
Manage customs procedures for warranty replacements, claim returns, repair shipments, and re-imports after repair
Coordinate duty-free re-import procedures and other special customs arrangements
Develop case-specific solutions in accordance with applicable EU and local customs requirements, including the BAP system where relevant
HS Code Classification:
Determine and verify HS codes for technical and manufacturing products
Collaborate with technical teams to obtain accurate product information and supporting documentation
Ensure consistency between product descriptions, technical specifications, HS codes, and customs documentation
Month-End and Operational Support:
Coordinate special export procedures for period-end deliveries
Review export transactions and resolve documentation issues during month-end closing
Align with warehouse, logistics, finance, and other internal teams to ensure timely shipment processing
Provide practical guidance on export requirements and perform pre-shipment documentation checks
Process Improvement and Automation:
Identify opportunities to improve customs and export workflows
Collaborate with IT and operations teams on ERP improvements and process automation
Support the development of scalable and reliable customs compliance processes
What You’ll Bring to Xometry:
3–5+ years of professional experience as a Customs Specialist, Customs Brokerage Manager, Export Compliance Specialist, or in a comparable customs operations role
Strong practical knowledge of EU export customs procedures, rules of origin, and preferential trade agreements
Hands-on experience with EUR.1 certificates, Supplier’s Declarations, T2 procedures, and other export documentation
Proven experience determining and verifying HS codes, preferably for technical or manufacturing products
Experience communicating directly with customs authorities and managing third-party customs brokers
Practical experience handling non-standard shipments, including returns, warranty replacements, repairs, and re-import procedures
Experience working with ERP systems and customs software or system integrations
Strong attention to detail and the ability to review complex commercial and customs documentation accurately
Proven ownership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently manage complex cases
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, particularly during month-end closing
Process-oriented mindset and interest in continuous improvement and automation
English proficiency at B2/C1 level for daily operations and cross-functional collaboration
Current residence and authorization to work within the European Union
Additional European language skills would be an advantage
Location: Remote within the European Union
