This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Remote Associate Legal Counsel. In this vital role, you will manage surety claims of varying complexities and provide essential legal guidance to our internal teams. Your expertise will help shape the legal strategies driving the success of our claims operations. Collaboration with colleagues globally will be critical as you address diverse underwriting and transactional legal needs. This position allows you to leverage your skills in a supportive remote environment while contributing meaningfully to the company’s objectives.
Accountabilities
- Independently handle surety claims matters of simple to mid-level complexity.
- Develop strong working relationships with Surety Underwriting and Operations teams globally.
- Provide timely and accurate legal counsel on surety underwriting and business matters.
- Assist in preparation and presentation of monthly/quarterly claims reporting functions.
- Conduct periodic educational sessions for internal surety underwriting and operations staff.
- Coordinate with Surety teams globally to align on legal and underwriting issues.
- Collaborate with outside counsel and consultants on claim and underwriting matters.
- Maintain required state adjuster’s licenses.
- Actively participate in surety industry groups and local surety events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor from ABA accredited institution.
- Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; additional admission in Canada is a plus.
- 5-7 years of Surety industry legal experience, preferably in-house at a Surety Company.
- Established track record in handling surety claims and underwriting legal matters.
- Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with cross-border underwriting and indemnity matters preferred.
- Litigation management experience and coordination with external legal counsel.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint proficiency.
- Awareness of Artificial Intelligence technologies and a willingness to integrate them into business processes.
