This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Backend (Mid-Level) Software Engineer in Europe.
We are seeking a talented Backend Software Engineer to join a fast-growing climate tech team focused on delivering innovative solutions for the electricity sector. In this role, you will develop and maintain backend systems that optimize the match between renewable energy generation and consumption, while supporting financial risk management. You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional teams to define and implement new features, improve software quality, and enhance the platform’s capabilities. The role offers exposure to a dynamic, remote-first environment where technical ownership, innovation, and teamwork directly contribute to meaningful climate impact. Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, test, and release backend functionality powering the platform’s energy optimization and risk management features.
- Collaborate with product and cross-functional teams to define, shape, and implement new product features.
- Maintain and improve the quality of code, tests, and infrastructure while adhering to best practices.
- Contribute to team culture and processes, promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in design and architecture discussions, helping scale the platform reliably across multiple regions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance, reliability, and operational issues in production systems.
Requirements:
- 3–6 years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong knowledge of a high-level programming language such as Python, Java, or C#; willingness and interest to work in Python is essential.
- Experience with relational databases, preferably Postgres, and familiarity with time-series data.
- Comfortable working in startup and/or remote-first environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and software quality.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities.
- Bonus: Experience in energy, commodity trading, or financial markets; familiarity with ETRM/CTRM systems; experience with data libraries like pandas or polars; mathematical/analytical background.
- Fluent English speaker; other European languages are a plus.
