As a Complex Claim Specialist, you will oversee complex legal malpractice matters from investigation through resolution, ensuring claims are evaluated accurately and handled strategically. You will play a key role in developing resolution strategies, managing litigation, and achieving optimal claim outcomes. Accountabilities:
The Complex Claim Specialist will be responsible for managing complex professional liability claims, with a focus on legal malpractice matters, while ensuring effective investigation, litigation management, and resolution strategies.
- Handle complex professional liability claims from initial assessment through final resolution.
- Identify potential exposures and ensure claim reserves are established, reviewed, and maintained appropriately and timely.
- Evaluate coverage issues, policy interpretation, and risk transfer opportunities.
- Conduct comprehensive, independent investigations using available resources, including legal databases, experts, research tools, and other relevant information sources.
- Analyze liability, damages, and overall claim exposure to determine appropriate resolution strategies.
- Manage litigation processes through effective counsel selection, case planning, budgeting, and ongoing collaboration with legal partners.
- Negotiate settlements and resolutions using strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Communicate claim exposures, strategies, and outcomes effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement claim resolution plans designed to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Maintain accurate documentation and utilize claims management systems effectively.
- Travel periodically to attend mediations, trials, and related meetings as required.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an experienced claims professional with extensive knowledge of professional liability, legal malpractice matters, and complex litigation management.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience handling professional liability claims.
- Strong understanding of complex claims processes, legal principles, liability evaluation, and litigation management.
- Experience analyzing coverage issues, damages, reserves, and settlement strategies.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders while maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with claims management systems and paperless file environments.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced legal or insurance credentials such as a JD, CPCU, or RPLU designation are preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel periodically for business needs.
