This role offers an opportunity to provide strategic and hands-on legal leadership in a dynamic, consumer-focused environment. The Deputy General Counsel, Regulatory & Commercial will oversee legal matters related to regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, and advertising claims for dietary supplements and wellness products. You will partner with cross-functional teams including Marketing, R&D, Product, and Regulatory Affairs to enable compliant innovation while mitigating legal and regulatory risks. This position requires a strong balance of subject-matter expertise, practical business judgment, and leadership capabilities to influence enterprise-wide decision-making and support the organization’s growth and strategic objectives.
Accountabilities
- Provide day-to-day legal guidance on FDA and FTC compliance for dietary supplements, wellness products, labeling, advertising, claims substantiation, and related regulatory requirements
- Advise product development, marketing, and regulatory teams on legal and regulatory risk, including claims development and substantiation strategies
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with emphasis on regulatory compliance, intellectual property, confidentiality, indemnification, and liability provisions
- Act as a backup to the General Counsel to ensure continuity of legal support across enterprise matters such as corporate governance, employment law, privacy, data protection, and litigation management
- Monitor regulatory trends, enforcement actions, and guidance to translate developments into actionable risk assessments and business advice
- Develop and deliver training, standard operating procedures, and guidance to promote compliance and consistency across the organization
- Mentor and lead legal team members, fostering professional growth, strategic alignment, and a positive, collaborative culture
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar membership required
- Minimum 5+ years of legal experience with substantial expertise advising on FDA and FTC regulatory matters for dietary supplements, wellness products, or consumer health products
- Proven experience in advertising and labeling compliance, claims substantiation, and regulatory risk assessment
- Demonstrated ability to advise cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, regulated environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills with attention to detail and strategic judgment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- Proficiency in legal research, contract management software, and standard office productivity tools
- Leadership experience in mentoring, performance management, and succession planning within a legal or regulatory team
