Role Overview
The Retention Marketing Specialist will own email and SMS marketing across the full post-acquisition customer journey, driving engagement, retention, and long-term LTV through tools like Customer.io and AI-assisted workflows. This role combines strategic thinking with daily hands-on execution - building flows, writing copy, segmenting audiences, and reporting on performance. The Retention Marketing Specialist will be a core contributor to one of the highest-leverage functions in the business.

Key Responsibilities
Lifecycle Email Marketing
Build, manage, and optimize email flows for onboarding, engagement, win-backs, and retention.
Write or refine email copy, leveraging AI tools for speed and consistency.
Develop segmentation strategies using customer data, purchase behavior, and lifecycle stage.
Monitor deliverability, open rates, click-through rates, and downstream conversions.
SMS Marketing
Own SMS marketing as a retention and re-engagement channel, including copy, segmentation, and send cadence.
Design flows that complement email journeys while minimizing audience fatigue.
Ensure compliance with all SMS regulations.
Campaign & Content Calendar
Lead the lifecycle content calendar for email and SMS, aligned with product launches and promotions.
Coordinate with creative teams for asset production, providing clear briefs and deadlines.
Prioritize campaigns based on retention impact and business objectives.
Analytics & Optimization
Track performance metrics including LTV, churn, repeat purchases, and engagement.
Run A/B tests on subject lines, copy, send times, and flow logic; implement improvements based on results.
Build dashboards and reporting to provide actionable insights to leadership.
AI & Tools
Utilize AI tools to accelerate copywriting, segmentation ideation, and performance analysis.
Stay current on emerging lifecycle marketing tools and provide recommendations for adoption.
Qualifications - Experience
4+ years of experience in lifecycle, retention, or CRM marketing.
Hands-on experience with Customer.io, including flow creation, segmentation, and campaign execution.
Demonstrated experience managing email and SMS campaigns end-to-end, including copy, segmentation, and performance tracking.
Familiarity with Klaviyo and/or Segment is a plus.
Experience in DTC, ecommerce, telehealth, healthcare, or subscription businesses preferred.
Qualifications - Skills
Strong copywriting skills for email and SMS campaigns across multiple audience segments.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret performance data and take actionable steps.
Proven ability to build and manage content calendars across multiple channels simultaneously.
Comfortable running A/B tests and translating results into measurable improvements.
Capable of building performance dashboards and reports that deliver leadership-level insights.
AI-curious and experienced in leveraging AI-powered tools to improve marketing output and efficiency.
Highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple campaigns in a fast-paced remote environment.

Coverage: Full lifecycle coverage with no gaps in customer journey communications.
Performance: Metrics such as LTV, retention, and repeat purchase rates trending positively over time.
Execution: Campaigns are launched on time, on-brand, and fully tracked.
Insight: Reports provide actionable insights that inform decisions and drive growth across the business.
