SOLUTION CAD ENGINEER III
Unlimited Technology (UT). designs, installs, and services integrated electronic and physical security systems (access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, physical barriers, etc.) for government and commercial entities. Though based primarily in the mid-Atlantic region, our team members dispatch to locations throughout the nation and occasionally overseas. In business for more than 20-years, UT continues to grow while maintaining a strong culture of teamwork.
UT is searching for a SOLUTION CAD ENGINEER III. This position will be REMOTE. Location is flexible within the United States.
POSITION SUMMARY
Working in the Engineering department, the Solution CAD Engineer III will interface with UT internal resources as well as external customers, end-users and architects to support the essential job duties listed below. These duties will be fulfilled by collaborating with the UT Solutions Engineering, Business Development, Operations, and Project Management teams for physical security system design, documentation, and estimating support.
The Solutions CAD Engineer III will be primarily responsible for developing detailed CAD drawing packages for specific customers by adhering to customer design standards, system guidelines, and industry best practices. This role is a hybrid of Solutions Engineering and CAD-focused responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on AutoCAD production, design accuracy, and constructability. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating technical inputs and documentation to drive project and proposal completion.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Work directly with customers, end-users, architects, and UT internal stakeholders to develop physical security system designs based on client requirements, standards, and best practices.
- Create complete AutoCAD drawing packages for physical security systems including, but not limited to, Access Control, Video Surveillance, Intrusion Detection, and Intercom systems.
- Develop drawing packages from concept-level designs, existing designs, or customer-provided documentation.
- Update and maintain drawing packages to reflect design changes, red-lines, and final as-built conditions.
- Incorporate customer-specific CAD standards, layering conventions, symbols, title blocks, and documentation requirements.
- Support RFP, design/build, and proposal efforts through drawing takeoffs, system layouts, and documentation development.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) based on CAD designs and system requirements.
- Develop technical Scopes of Work (SOWs) aligned with system designs and customer expectations.
- Generate cost estimates based on drawings, BOMs, and system designs for specific customers.
- Collaborate with Solutions Engineers, Project Managers, and Operations teams to ensure design intent, constructability, and installation alignment.
- Maintain version control, drawing accuracy, and documentation quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Demonstrate understanding of construction documentation and coordinate physical security designs within architectural and engineering backgrounds.
- Ability to independently manage multiple design tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment.
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in physical security system design and/or CAD production.
- Strong experience developing AutoCAD drawing packages for Access Control, Video Surveillance, Intrusion Detection, and Intercom systems.
- Experience working directly with customers, end-users, architects, or consultants on system design and documentation.
- Experience creating drawing-based takeoffs, BOMs, and estimates.
- Experience reviewing and incorporating red-lines and producing final as-built documentation.
- Experience supporting proposal and RFP efforts through design and documentation.
- Experience with enterprise, government, healthcare, higher education, or commercial security environments is preferred.
- Experience with one or more of the following security platforms is a plus:
- Genetec, Lenel, Software House, Gallagher, Milestone, Avigilon, AMAG, Feenics.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience (4+ years) with a technical focus.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of physical security systems and how components integrate and function together.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface professionally with customers and internal teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality deliverables in a remote work environment.
