The Team
As Upstart’s Creative & Brand Content Team, we shape how the brand comes to life across every touchpoint — defining our voice, personality, and emotional connection with borrowers and partners.
As the founding Director of Social Media at Upstart, you will build our social presence — defining who we are, how we show up, and how we build relationships with our communities. This is a hands-on leadership role and a team-of-one to start, with the opportunity to grow your dream team over time. You will set the vision, strategy, operating model, and measurement framework for social, while also rolling up your sleeves to create, experiment, and ship.
You will own organic social including content and creator strategies, community engagement, and social governance. You will be responsible for building business cases, forecasting impact, defining KPIs, and partnering with Paid Media and Growth to extend brand and campaign impact across channels.
This role is ideal for a builder — someone equally comfortable shaping long-term strategy and doing the work required to get something new off the ground. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to be a key driver in making Upstart a beloved brand, cultural icon, and household name.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote
Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
