The Durst Organization, founded in 1915 by Joseph Durst, is the owner, manager and builder of 13 million square feet of premiere Manhattan office towers and 1,950 residential rental units with 3,400 in development. The Durst Organization built the most environmentally advanced skyscraper in the United States, the 2.1 million square foot LEED Platinum Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park. The Organization is recognized as a world leader in the development of high-performance and environmentally advanced commercial and residential properties. In May 2011, The Durst Organization became an owner of One World Trade Center, partnering with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Durst Organization is responsible for leasing, marketing, and management of the 3.1 million square foot office tower. In 2016, The Durst Organization completed VIA 57 WEST, the anchor of the residential superblock, 57 WEST, between 11th and 12th Avenues and 57th and 58th Streets. With the completion of HELENA 57 WEST in 2005 and the upcoming completion of FRANK 57 WEST, the superblock will transform what was vacant lots and blighted industrial sites into one of Manhattan's most architecturally significant and desirable residential neighborhoods. The Durst Organization also built EŌS, a mixed-use retail, office and rental tower with 122,000 square feet of commercial space and 375 rental units in NoMad which opened in 2016. Friends of the High Line was founded in 1999 by two neighborhood residents, Joshua David and Robert Hammond. The 501 (c) (3) non-profit advocated for the High Line's preservation when the structure was under threat of demolition. Friends of the High Line successfully worked with the mayoral administration of Michael Bloomberg and the New York City Council to reverse a demolition favoring one to ensure the High Line's preservation through the federal Friends Corner Rail banking program. Friends of the High Line is also currently working to raise the essential private funding to help complete the High Line's construction and create an endowment for its future operations.
