Job Description: Paralegals perform substantive billable legal work under the direction of Partners or attorneys. Their goal is to relieve attorneys of certain tasks so attorneys can focus on more complex work. Paralegals provide billable services at a lower rate, benefiting the Firm's clients.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain pleadings, discovery indexes, and case files
• Perform administrative duties such as calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, managing logistics
• Fill out legal forms
• Draft letters and simple court documents
• Draft divorces by customizing standard forms
• Prepare contracts by customizing standard forms
• Write reports and legal documents
• Research laws and judicial decisions related to current and past cases
• Assist attorneys in preparing cases for trial
• Draft corporate bylaws and operating agreements
• Review pending legislation
• Draft motions and other court documents
• Prepare discovery and responses to discovery demands
• Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
• Gather relevant information from various sources
• Handle State/Federal filing in Florida, New York, Texas, Maryland, Washington, D.C.
• Liaise between attorneys and external third-party vendors
• Finalize formatting and exhibits for pleadings, motions, etc. before filing
Skills:
• Knowledge of Federal court rules is a significant advantage
• Experience in complex litigation
• Minimum of 5 years as a litigation paralegal in a U.S. law firm
• Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus but not mandatory
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work timely and meet deadlines
