This role offers the opportunity to build and scale AI systems that directly impact millions of users across emerging markets. The Applied AI Engineer will design, develop, and deploy advanced AI models, including LLMs and voice agents, to automate and enhance customer interactions. You will work end-to-end, from research and prototyping to production deployment, optimizing for reliability, scalability, and real-world constraints such as low connectivity and under-resourced languages. Collaborating with product, engineering, and data teams, you will help shape AI-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency and user experience. The position requires a blend of strong technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering tangible impact in high-stakes environments. Remote work is supported, with occasional travel to operational markets to better understand user needs and product performance.
Accountabilities:
- Design, build, and deploy AI models and agent systems that power customer support and engagement at scale.
- Develop autonomous voice and digital agents to handle millions of interactions across multiple languages and challenging connectivity environments.
- Evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art AI models for both text and speech applications.
- Own AI projects end-to-end, from discovery to production, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate research into practical solutions that deliver measurable impact.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize deployed AI systems to continuously improve performance.
- Build frameworks for evaluating AI outputs, including measures for hallucinations, groundedness, and system trustworthiness.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, including hands-on experience with LLMs, embeddings, RAG, and agent orchestration.
- Strong Python and backend engineering skills; solid foundation in statistics and ML theory.
- Proven experience taking ML models from prototype to production with focus on reliability and scalability.
- Experience with AI coding agents and deploying them in production systems.
- Familiarity with voice AI systems, including ASR, TTS, and real-time streaming, is a plus.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, design end-to-end solutions, and balance research with pragmatic engineering.
- Fluency in English; bilingual French is a significant bonus.
- Bonus points: experience with low-resource language challenges, customer support AI, or keeping up with latest research in speech and LLMs.
