Tem·about 15 hours ago
We have built the new way for energy to be transacted.
tem exists to fix a creaking energy market. Today's wholesale system is stacked in favour of the few - a relic of the oil and gas era, riddled with markups and middlemen. We're changing that.
Our product, RED™, is built on a proprietary pricing engine that bypasses the wholesale market, enabling businesses to buy energy produced by renewable generators directly. That means clear, auditable transactions that ensure affordable bills and fair compensation - giving every business real ownership and control over where their energy comes from.
Since launching in 2021, we've saved UK businesses and generators over £25 million, powering a growing network of forward-thinking companies, from Pizza Pilgrims to Silverstone.
Backed by top-tier VCs including Atomico and Albion, we're creating a new category in energy - one that's decentralised, direct, and built on trust.
🏅 The Role
We’re hiring our first in-house legal hire - a senior commercial legal profile who can operate in a fast-growing startup environment.
This role is predominantly focused on commercial and contractual law, including customer contracting and the day-to-day contracting processes that support revenue and growth. You specifically noted this is much less focused on corporate structure or the governance side of the law.
We are looking for someone with a very strong commercial brain alongside a strong legal background - someone who can think holistically about commercial risk and reward, not just drive to mitigate risk.
You will also help manage external law firms across specialist areas, including support on fundraising and other general corporate matters (for example tax), while keeping pace and responsiveness high.
🚀 Responsibilities
Manage tem’s internal contracting processes and keep them running with strong pace and consistency.
Create, develop, and amend customer contracts and other commercial agreements.
Support compliance in relation to regulatory requirements in the energy market (alongside the contracting work).
Apply strong commercial judgement to contracting decisions by balancing risk with growth opportunity.
Manage and coordinate external law firms for:
Contract drafting support where needed
Fundraising support (working with the firm that manages the fundraising process)
Broader general corporate matters handled externally (for example tax)
Maintain a strong feedback loop and operational rhythm with external counsel so commercial contracts and fundraising work do not stall.
Success in this role
Success is not about slowing things down. It is about enabling the business to move quickly and confidently by strengthening contracting, decision-making, and the operational pace of legal execution.
🎯 Requirements
Clearly senior profile (not junior).
Experience in an in-house legal position at a tech company (FinTech or energy ideal, but not required).
Strong commercial and contractual law focus.
Strong commercial brain - able to understand risk/reward trade-offs and support growth-oriented decisions.
Experience operating in a fast-growing startup environment.
Ability to manage external law firms effectively across contracting support and fundraising support.
Background in FinTech or energy.
Experience working in environments where legal has to keep a very high pace across commercial contracting and fundraising simultaneously.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, including those that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech and energy sectors. If you’re excited about this role but not sure you meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Your unique perspective could be exactly what we’re looking for.
